We're not going to complain, for the time being. We must say with certainty that This festival has its moments of Latin American charm and we should celebrate them. Rock al Parque 2017 offers musical acts for all tastes, including ours. We've found plenty of reasons to go to Simón Bolívar Park and see concerts that They will surely remain happily in our memories for a long time.
We have thoroughly reviewed the lineup of musicians present at this event and have chosen those who, in our opinion, are the most interesting artists of the competition. Our selection includes blues, rock, border folk, experimental electronica, hip hop, and jazz. Here are our tips, hoping to meet you at each of these events.
Mon LaferteAn elegant expression of the new Latin American pop. A stunning voice that has exploded onto the music scene in recent years. Her rebellious beauty perfectly complements the entire artistic package offered by this Chilean artist based in Mexico. Her style is a return to an aesthetic from the beginning of the last century, without forgetting that her audience has only just been born at the dawn of this millennium. Monday, July 3, Bio Stage. 8:45 pm.
Lucrecia DaltShe was born in Pereira and has been living in Europe, specifically Belgium, for several years. To put it in an unfairly simplistic way, her work is about experimentation. To be more precise, her work involves pushing the interplay of voices, strings, and samples to fascinating extremes, mesmerizing the audience with her refined presence and her desire to break the established rules. This is a performance best enjoyed from the grass of Simón Bolívar Park, with the calm and tranquility that such an exquisite stage production deserves. Monday, July 3, Eco Stage. 2 pm.
How to assassinate FelipesA brilliant blend of jazz and hip hop, with complex, intricate, and exciting lyrics. These Chileans offer an intense sonic experience that isn't easy to listen to at first, but if you have the patience for the first few minutes, it's easy to get drawn into the film they present—a kind of mystery soundtrack, a film noir drama script set in the southern part of the continent. Sunday, July 2nd, Plaza Stage. 3:20 pm.
Kanaku and the TigerIt sounds like music made on the balcony of an apartment overlooking the Pacific Ocean, while Lima's gray sky threatens but never quite bursts with the inevitable afternoon rain. What these Peruvians create has a happy, twisted flavor of leisure time, as if life didn't have its constant anxieties. It's pleasantly different folk music. Monday, July 3, Bio Stage. 5:15 pm.
Two minutesAnd they took a long time to come to the continent's main free festival, but here they are. They are the quintessential Latin American punk band. Thousands of people will sing their most famous songs and, hopefully, they will do so celebrating the peace and coexistence that has characterized the festival throughout its history. Monday, July 3, Plaza Stage. 2 pm.
The MakenzysPerhaps the best musical performance of the year from the capital city. Their music is pure rock 'n' roll, but it's undeniably entertaining. This power trio deserves top exposure among the Rock al Parque headliners, thanks to their fresh songs, their swagger on stage, and because there's nothing more exhilarating than a group of budding rock stars. Monday, July 3, Plaza Stage. 6:35 pm.
Elkin RobinsonFrom the island of Providencia comes the refreshing breath of the Caribbean. Their style is to create calypso, soca, and other sounds from the region in a contemporary, honest, and innovative way. In a short time, they have managed to attract the attention of specialized critics and audiences from different continents seeking new artistic voices. Sunday, July 2, Bio Stage. 7:50 pm.
Pablo TrujilloIntimate and high-quality blues rock. This Bogota native presents himself as an intense singer-songwriter and has established himself as one of the best guitarists on the Colombian scene. He doesn't need pyrotechnic displays or complex acrobatics to capture attention and create delight with his songs. Monday, July 3, Bio Stage. 4:10 pm.
The SpiritsOne of the most interesting rock acts currently performing in Argentina. Their music is a colorful, psychedelic, and cosmopolitan journey. There's a return to certain classic moments of the genre, but without overdoing it. On the contrary, their compositions excite the present. Monday, July 3, Bio Stage. 7:25 pm.
Saint CeciliaLatin culture in Los Angeles at its finest. The mischievous folklore crosses the border and leaps over the cursed walls, blending with local country music and infusing the compositions with a touch of blues. It's a traditional delight with a healthy dose of nostalgia and some rather interesting bilingual elements. Monday, July 3, Eco Stage. 7:35 pm.
