In the face of the grave events on our continent, we returned to poetry and to political and humanitarian concerns. Rather than narrating for ourselves what is happening in northern Argentina, we wish to turn to a new poem written by Teresa Parodi, making the tragedy and repression more clearly understood. (Solidarity with the people of Jujuy)
Jujuy
Gunshots can be heard in the air,
The violence can be heard amidst the full force of the fire,
The defiant cry of the nobodies can be heard
in the midst of the open-air fighting.
Who's up for that shootout?
to kill the claim of rights,
who vilely attacks the people
Who raises flags of resistance?
The horror, the savage madness,
the impiety of the offense and the contempt,
power that has no love or soul
and snatches away and destroys and leaves dead.
Let not the desolate homeland be silent,
Do not hide your sad bewilderment,
Do not destroy your desperate love,
Do not ignore their enormous distress.
Let there be no forgiveness for the blind,
the exegetes of hate, the faithless,
those who never knew oblivion,
of piecework, of being nothing and having nothing.
They will burn in their own solitude,
in their own dark missteps,
when hope sings victory,
when the sun shines again in the village.
