From August 1st, Santiago Maldonado, an Argentinian by birth and committed to social causes that we believe are just, is missing. Witnesses say he was captured by the Gendarmerie during a protest by Mapuche Indians for their lands in Patagonia. More than a month has passed since then, and the authorities have not provided any information about his whereabouts, despite the evidence presented daily against the actions of the Argentine state security force. His family is asking for him and we are accompanying them in their search. Much of the Latin American continent is protesting and demanding his safe return, because they see in Maldonado the image of any of our young people, any of those who have been detained without just cause, tortured and disappeared. We all know of similar cases in each of our countries. None of them, regardless of the circumstances, deserve this type of action against them.
