Danceable, romantic, classic, modern… there are songs for every taste and every moment. Many deal with love, joy, or sadness, while others are related to good luck., the money and even more specifically, with the lottery. Here we present some of the most interesting ones.
California Dreamin´- The Mamas and The Papas
The famous folk rock group released California Dreamin' in 1965. It was written by John and Michelle, two of the members of The Mamas and The Papas, who found inspiration in the melancholy they felt living far from California. Then, in 2013, a revamped version of California Dreamin'appeared in a commercial for the US Powerball lottery, causing an increase in popularity of this drawing not only in California and the South, but also in Latin America.
Billionaire – Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars
This song focuses more on money, and everything you can do with it.“I want to be a millionaire… to buy all the things I never had.” “I see my name in the twinkling lights, and a different city every night”, are some of the stanzas of Billionaire. Although the lyrics may reflect the waste of fortune that a millionaire can afford, also mentions “And last but not least, to grant people their last wish”, referring to how money can help those most in need.
The Lottery Song – Harry Nilsson
The American singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson (1941-1994), included in his extensive repertoire of compositions “The Lottery Song”, one of the songs that best reflects the intentions and desires of a lottery player. Its lyrics feature verses such as “"Give me the money," "I'll buy a ticket," "We could win the lottery," "We'd go to Las Vegas," or "We'd be very happy."”
What music brings to the lottery, whether in the form of advertisements or in verse, is reciprocated. For example, The lottery has helped to fund musical projects, allowing promising young people to have an opportunity in the world of music.
