We're heading into the 22nd edition of Rock al Parque, a show that attracts between 250,000 and 400,000 people over 3 days And during these more than two decades of the festival, I dare say that I haven't seen a single official poster for this event that satisfies me, that makes me think it projects the image needed to inspire locals and foreigners alike at the biggest free concert in Latin America.
I see the new festival poster and think that The image does not correspond to a music festival held outdoors., with massive attendance, primarily young people, with a wide variety of sounds in its programming, and where there are signs of people arriving at Simón Bolívar Park to celebrate life alongside thousands of others who will be thrilled, at least for a long weekend, of being in Bogotá. In this new design I don't see a trace of joy, of good humor., not even good music. I hope you'll excuse me, but what I see is more appropriate for a dramatic piece where the ending leaves doubts and perhaps misfortune., as if it were a work of Arthur Miller or Samuel Beckett.
But the mistake with the festival's image is not a problem unique to this year, It's always been that way. We've seen all kinds of designs, some blatant plagiarisms, others with incomprehensible figures (remember the snail with studs?), Others resort to the most obvious elements of the genre without even giving it a particular twist. They have gone through all the processes: Competitions among designers from district universities, hiring employees from advertising agencies, internal work by the organizing government institutions… Nothing. I am convinced, contrary to what some might think, that In Bogotá there are many artists and professionals in the field who could create that unforgettable piece that deserves such an important event as this one every year. An image so powerful that after a long time it lodges in our memories and makes us feel that Something historic has happened, and that poster represents the greatness of that event. This type of confusing and forgettable graphical results doesn't come close to that.
Something has to be done, perhaps we should ask those responsible for this matter to take action. take it more seriously and understand the importance of creating memory and instilling love for a festival that is an important part of the history of this city.
The official image of Rock al Parque 2016:

Just in case, as a daring postscript, a small sample of posters from other festivals around the world events in recent years, to give illustrative examples of the matter:
