Editor's note: Laura Román, lead singer of the Colombian alternative pop project Peach, has agreed to develop a list of his ten favorite Latin songs, to share it with all our readers. Her eclectic and kind-hearted taste is reflected in her choice of these ten songs. which more than one will celebrate as it should be.
The Latin set of Laura Román It is as follows:
1. Complete Love – Mon LaferteIt took me a while to really listen to this Chilean singer, but when I did my homework properly I was ready. She conveyed to me a great deal the honesty with which she sings. and the raw power of its lyrics. This song is my favorite on their album. Mon Laferte Vol. 1.
2. Time goes by – Robi DracoIn general, I really like melancholic music, music that conveys nostalgia and even a touch of sadness in its lyrics, and definitely, This song fulfills all of that.. The first time I heard it, I could feel all of Draco's helplessness as he spoke of the inexorable passage of time. My eyes welled up a little because I also connected with that feeling through recent family experiences back in 2009.
3. Pretty – Jarabe de PaloI remember this song well because it helped me through a difficult day in my adolescence. Being a teenager was truly complicated., the world was becoming less pleasant Or rather, I was losing that protective veil I had in my childhood, but one day when I left school and heard this song in the car, I remembered that things were simpler and that I was complicating things more than necessary, because, in the long run, everything does end up being beautiful.
4. Down to the Root – Natalia LafourcadeIt also meant a lot to me personally. I listened to it just a few hours after it was released on YouTube., And without realizing it, it made me cry. It beautifully describes what it's like to lose someone while still feeling close to them. I couldn't help but get emotional. It's one of the few songs that has made me feel this way on the first listen.
5. Beautiful – CeratiA few years ago, when I was listening to everything I could find by Soda Stereo and Cerati, I came across this song. I love everything about it: the fresh music and the lyrics, so abstract yet so powerful with the line "you deserve what you dream." Everything about it seems perfect to me.
6.Millionaire – Mosh Play-DohIt takes me back to the MTV era, when our personal playlists were practically only possible thanks to that channel. Back then I listened to some Plastilina Mosh, but this is definitely the song I've grown to love the most.
7. Feeling weird – Ximena Sariñana: I listened to Ximena's first album, which focused on acoustic pop with hints of jazz, and I repeated it to myself nonstop, particularly this song which has a dark aura and lyrics as strange as its title.
8. Are – Cafe Tacvba It's my favorite song by this iconic Latin American band... I think it's because I've always thought Emmanuel's voice was prettier, and it definitely conveys a lot on this topic of unrequited love.
9. Monitor – Vol-au-ventThis song is emblematic of 2006, a year when internet communication was booming. It speaks of a cyber love. Although I wasn't in love, I strongly identified with having friends I didn't know personally, who were just messenger icons.
10. Forward – LiannaOf all the Colombian female singers, Lianna is one of the ones I admire most. I love her voice, her singing style, and her messages. She's completely at home in a genre that, although it has quite a following, still remains somewhat underground: Soul with R&B and Hip Hop.
