Beast Records, Beast Discos, an independent label headquartered in the Chilean city of Concepción. Its roster of artists includes such prominent talents as... Lucybell, Miss Garrison, Colombina Parra and Portugal, And among their new signings we can include some surprising names like Hausi Kuta, Flora and Joyaplástika, among others. To find out how this year went and the predictions for 2019, we contacted them again. Gustavo Bustos, director of this business endeavor, to conduct a short interview that updates us on the musical landscape of his country:
How was this year for your label?
It was a year of highs and lows. Four tours, three international and one national. Eight albums released and one new band that arrived in the summer; they are Flora, and I recommend you listen to their single. Speed.
And how do you feel the Chilean music scene fared?
Pretty good, several albums have received international press attention, which is great. Each year the music industry is becoming more established through international fairs, tours, and festivals, thanks to the high-quality productions bands are releasing and the excellent live shows they're putting on. Furthermore, the support of IMI Chile, ProChile and FonMus It has been fundamental.
Is the Chilean public responding to the offer?
Yes, more and more venues are opening, especially in other cities. That helps you build a consistent audience and do a national tour.
You were talking about ups and downs, what can you say falls within the negative points of the year?
Sometimes it's hard to manage an artist roster effectively. Running a label can be challenging, and reaching good agreements with bands isn't always easy. We need to improve our work and be 100% committed to them, never letting them down; it will catch up with us later. On the other hand, our good work allows us to move forward on the right foot in 2019 with new artists, planning new tours, and releasing albums. This new year is going to be packed.
