By José Gandue @Gandour

Their names are Daiana Azar and Guillermo Porro. In the Argentine music scene, they are known for their production and instrumentation work with prominent contemporary artists such as Marilina Bertoldi, Bambi, Siamés, and the Chilean band La Ley. Together, they have created a project that blends electro, trip hop, and contemporary rock elements. Make mom proud. After several singles and EPs, they have released their first album called There is no band, a compilation of perfect songs, where the spirit of sonic experimentation and a pop forcefulness are combined, where they leave no loose ends and meticulously achieve exciting, danceable and sensitive themes. Everything is meticulously crafted: its audio production, its visual presentation, its communication. On July 20th, they officially launched their album at La Tangente, a venue located in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, and they're already heavily promoting it in the media. After hundreds of thousands of streams on digital platforms, it's clear they're generating a lot of buzz among their fans and the specialized press. That's why we contacted Azar to learn more about this duo, who we're sure we'll see touring somewhere near you in the coming years.

What, in your own words, is Make Mama Proud?
Make Mama Proud is a musical style, an aesthetic style, and a lifestyle. The idea is for it to be a project that encompasses all of those areas. We strive to do our best and give our all musically, lyrically, and visually. That's why we named the project "Make Mama Proud." We felt it perfectly represents the spirit of the project. First, we try to be proud of what we do ourselves, so that we can then share it with everyone who identifies with our feelings.

How would you describe the duo's sound?
The duo's sound is difficult to categorize into a single genre. While it falls within the realm of "pop songs," it incorporates elements of many styles, such as electronica, rock, and even trip-hop. We appreciate that Make Mama Proud has a fresh, unique, and genuine sound.

How do you feel within the current context of Argentine music?
In Argentina today, we feel like we're not part of any similar music "movement," so to speak. We try to forge our own path, to do what we truly love without needing to be "trendy" or make music of the moment. We feel that our path is one of the heart, of creating something totally genuine and different from what we've heard before. We have many band friends, but there aren't any projects that are very similar to MMP.

What is a Make Mama Proud live show like?
An MMP live show is a much more rock-oriented and adventurous experience than the album. The songs are longer, there are musical transitions, new sections, and a lot of adrenaline. We switch instruments, and it's a really fun experience.

What plans, apart from the upcoming album release, are coming up for MMP?
Playing live and continuing to make music. Our idea is to present our live show in as many places as possible, to get our name out there, and to release new material by the end of the year. We like to be constantly on the move.
