When you listen to Francisca Straube, singer and drummer of the Chilean band Miss Garrison, One might think of the voice of Natasha Khan from Bat for Lashes, or Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, But in the end, he manages to impose his personal stamp in a bold and confident manner. The group's new album, At Night in the Sun, It gives us that feeling. In December 2015, and on the verge of breaking up, Straube, along with Tomás Rivera and Rodrigo de la Rivera, decided to retreat to a beach house in Chile to create new sounds and, incidentally, rethink the relationship between them.
All prejudices disappear as soon as you start listening to this very well-made work., where everything is in its place and expresses its feeling. Everything comes together to reveal the more mature version of Miss Garrison, which is intended to explore through rhythmic accelerations and decelerations: “an inner journey towards dreams, fears, insecurities, happiness… towards the sun at night”,as they themselves describe it. And it's no wonder. Simply listening to and feeling songs like Dreams, Navigator, and the eponymous At Night in the Sun, demonstrate what has been stated above.
The result is simply fantastic: 41 minutes and 10 seconds in which the state of uncertainty is reflected the state the band was in when creating this album. The band's great achievement is not only an exploration—almost audiovisual, in fact—of scenarios of unease, but it can also take us through more lively and optimistic passages.
It only remains to recommend that, in a moment of solitude, they focus one hundred percent of their attention on At Night in the Sun,And while you're at it, if you'd like, you can go back and explore Miss Garrison's previous albums. They will be able to prove that their music has a reason for being, and furthermore, they can see themselves reflected in it.
