Every true rock 'n' roll heart rejoices and celebrates When a great all-female band takes over, breaking down the barriers of prejudice once again And proving that they too can make the earth tremble with their music. Every occasion is appreciated when, with a string of killer songs, It slaps in the face that stupid refusal to acknowledge the power of women's voices rallying the masses. And it moves us, too. when this happens in the least expected places.
We have said it on previous occasions, but we reiterate it: Costa Rica, that small Central American republic of less than five million inhabitants, tHe has a lot to say in the current Latin American music scene. And it brings with it surprising sonic proposals that immediately grab your attention. One of them, clearly, is Colornoise.
This band It started as a duo (Sonya Carmona (lead vocals and guitar) and Alison Alvarado (drums and backing vocals), but starting last year they added Mari Navarro (keyboards, guitar) to their ranks) found its current format. Colornoise has been waging war for five years. with their songs of fascinating, noisy power, which at times remind us of PJ Harvey's most acerbic moments and Joan Jett's attitude. Her work has been referenced in some of the most prominent alternative media outlets on the planet, and even one of her recordings, Amalie, It has been referenced as one of the best songs of 2015 according to NPR Music.
This time, Colornoise brings us She was a machine, a production of thick sound, uncomplicated lyrics and with the ability to pin the listener against the wall, making their guts churn for a brief but gratifying two minutes and nine seconds. The shortest description we can give is that This recording is powerful and uncompromising.
Colornoise is not a flash in the pan. Once again, it confirms that what she has is her own talent. It is a reality that will have much to say and sing for many years to come., for the good of rock music on the continent and to avoid the antiquated arbitrariness of the musical genre.
