…it can come from anywhere
Good records come from anywhere. They don't necessarily originate in the most vital and famous places on the planet. Sure, emerging in New York, London, Los Angeles, or another obvious metropolis in our mental framework better explains—though we're always open to confusion—how the fascinating sounds we celebrate come to be.
What if, instead, a wonderful post-rock / slowcore / dream pop / shoegaze album (any label will do) fell into our hands and ears from San Jose, Costa Rica?
Most potential members of an audience familiar with these genres would surely have their initial reservations. Some would claim, without even hearing a single note, that the musicians in question are tropical copycats of what the developed world produces. Others would expect nothing more than amateurish drafts with sonic flaws in their approach.
Well, at this point in our lives, we dare say that everyone would be wrong. And yes: here is a powerful, compelling album, a must-have if you, wise reader, want to refresh your record collection in a healthy way. Here we present Un destello de luz, of the Central Americans Adiós Cometa.
A glimmer of light: looking inward
Un destello de luz This is the point where, according to their press release, Adiós Cometa Stop looking around and decide to look inward. Her second album is born from the contrast between fleeing or staying, from the fear that weighs her down and the hope that pushes her forward, and it feels like an emotional journey thought out from beginning to end.
It is not a collection of individual songs, but a journey that is built in layers, tensions, and breaths.
Collaborations that expand the narrative
Collaborations play a fundamental role in the album's narrative. Lucía Masnatta (Fin del Mundo) brings a unique emotional charge to the track. El Mundo En Mis Brazos (Leonor), A song imbued with the experience of parenthood. María Paula Vásquez (Encarta 98) elevates Mala memoria with a sensitive interpretation and lyrics that add new layers of meaning, while Joaquín Vanrafelghem (Montegrande) adds a memorable saxophone at the end of the song.
Sound, identity and risk
In terms of sound, Adiós Cometa It deepens what it had already been hinting at: angular guitars, ambient passages, contained distortion and a constant search to sound big, raw and close to the live experience.
The album is clearly divided into two halves: a more upfront first half and a second half that delves into slower, darker, and more introspective territory. The collaborations aren't merely decorative; they add genuine emotional layers, exploring themes such as memory, loss, fear, fatherhood, and the idea of legacy.
Without idealizing anything, Un destello de luz It embraces fragility as part of the journey and proposes something simple yet powerful: in the midst of all that weighs heavily, it is still worth staying.
Editing, formats and next stage
Released by the independent labels Spinda Records (Spain), Steadfast Records (United States) and Furia (Costa Rica), Un destello de luz It will be available in digital, vinyl, CD and cassette formats on January 29, 2026.
The launch marks the beginning of a new era for Adiós Cometa, which already has confirmed dates in Latin America and plans a tour of Europe during the second half of the year, consolidating an artistic path guided by emotional honesty and the constant search for meaning.
Listen on Bandcamp
We're making it available to you on the most user-friendly platform of all: Bandcamp. Here, anyone can listen without a subscription, enjoying the free pleasure of hearing songs like Candelaria (an extreme poem about the noise we deserve), Luminosa (a dark tune with the spirit of a ballad amidst the hurricanes) and Victoria (a fitting end to the audition, painful in its interpretation, exquisite in its conclusion).
Adiós Cometa —and we're not begging, we're simply stating it without hesitation— deserves the attention of fans eager for surprises and new, high-quality material in the Latin American scene. Layers and layers of electric strings that serve as a relieving whirlwind.
Un destello de luz It already has the merits, even though it's only February, to be considered among the best productions of this year on this side of the world.
