The Colombian group Balthvs He states in the biography included on his official page that «"All music is psychedelic"». And he explains it like this: «"Music generates a trance and induces a plethora of emotions: The sum of Harmony, Melody, and Rhythm creates a mood; together they definitely change vibrations. This sum rarely divides men from one another; more than anything, it unites them."». Under that philosophy, we believe, the trio residing in the city of Bogotá releases their new EP entitled Green eyes, a package of four songs that have previously been released as singles and that have increased the interest their international fanbase has in them.
Green eyes It's a mellow album, we could even say (hopefully this doesn't offend anyone) that it sounds mature. It has a certain jazzy spirit., This quality is especially noticeable in the guitar work of Balthazar Aguirre, with a striking virtuosity that draws its roots from old Spanish and Middle Eastern traditions. The voices, which appear in the mix at a similar volume to the rest of the instruments, remind us of orchestral recordings from the seventies, where singing was used more in an ambient than a live performance. The title track of this album, which opens the compilation, has moments that seem to be taken from the more subdued moments of Sergio Mendes and his projects from four decades ago. Ashes, Perhaps the best cut, it is a delicate piece that in our imagination simulates being part of the soundtrack of Zabriskie Point, a 1970 film directed by the Italian Michelangelo Antonioni, an important reference point for the counterculture of those times. Komorebi, The tune with which this work closes, without increasing the speed set during the recording, is the most funky (and by funky we mean "sensual"), where we want to think there is an invitation to bring faces together and generate unexpected kisses (we do not hold the band responsible for this fantasy).
In the end, Green eyes It's a suggestive album, mature in its sound, and, without the need for euphoric screams or agitated body movements, It remains a genuine expression of psychedelia, recovery of the substance contained in good music made half a century ago.
