Daniela Medel  – Before Falling

This Chilean guitarist and keyboardist, who was involved in distinguished bands in her country, began her solo career in 2016 and released her first album the following year. Now in 2024 he presents an album of 10 songs, with a clean, exquisite and well-crafted sound, which allows her powerful and, at the same time, seductive voice to stand out. This is adult indie pop, with elements of bossa nova, folk and jazz., With its refined lyrics, this product may appeal to those seeking serious musical offerings that, without noisy agitation, can shake the listener and soothe their inner beasts. A work that looks like tasteful craftsmanship, which is sure to please those who want to spend a relaxing afternoon filled with instrumental experimentation. Best moment: Track number 4, called Fearful, where the vocal work shines especially brightly, narrating a beautiful speech in the face of death.

Is what has been called "industrial music" for several decades still relevant? Does this caustic genre of noise, built with unbridled abandon and desperation, still have a following? Are there still people who want to fill their ears with soundtracks of chaos, which provoke uncontrollable body movements? Of course, all of the above is said ironically. And the truth is that this aggressive sound should have more space among us, at least reflecting certain moments of our lives in this instant of humanity. And even more so when the proposal is as solid as the one presented by this Argentinian artist, who describes his recordings as a mix of post-industrial, dark pop, alternative rock, techno, and darkwave. The result is powerful, and he only needed two songs to demonstrate the interesting nature of his work. Perhaps the mission from now on is to give greater visibility to this type of sound., Because, from time to time, we need more distortion in our lives.

One piece of advice: Never stop watching what's happening in Costa Rica, musically speaking. Never. There are always hidden surprises, which may not reach more than a few thousand fans, but which, definitely, if they had been done in California or Leeds, would have had greater attention from fans around the world. In this case we bring you psychedelic rock, with thick distortions and a very particular flavor when it comes to vibrating on the skin and setting the receiving body in motion. Voices blasting through megaphones, instrumental effects that seem to have wandered through a hallucination, mixed with unexpected clean guitars that momentarily clear the densely stoner atmosphere emanating from the speakers. This four-song album It is a little gem that must not be lost in the graveyard of oblivion.

A confession: It is very difficult for us to fulfill the task of reviewing electronic music albums clearly intended for the dance floor. A long time ago, and not very consistently, we got involved in the world of DJs and producers of this type of sound. We make the mistake of thinking that everything sounds the same, and it is clear that it is not. Faced with such a feeling of guilt, we looked among the most recent releases for an album that would contradict us. We come across the work of this Colombian artist, related to many branches of techno, and whose search for textures is intense and distinctive. It has moments (not so obvious, which is appreciated) of "Latinidad" that elegantly and originally define the identity of its tracks. Importantly, the recording quality is impeccable. Thank you Sara for contradicting us so convincingly.
