Loop – Empty Garden
Let's head south first, more precisely to Montevideo, to listen to Martín García de Zúñiga, who, under the stage name Bucle, has released a compilation of eight tracks, recorded and mixed in his home studio, made entirely with a free spirit and a desire to mix everything that came to the musician's mind. Here we find curious sonic encounters between hip hop, indie pop, rock, and other contemporary textures., where strong reverberations are added to the voices and the drum machine is programmed in an uncomplicated way, within the framework of a proudly lo-fi production. It's an interesting work, which we know won't shine on the most important commercial music charts (or anything close to it), but the exercise is inspiring, in terms of its creative intention and the desire to get rid of a lot of ideas and put them down without shame, at the risk of many strangers listening to it and having a good time with the result.
Tangorra Orquesta Atípica – Pompeii
Let's cross the Río de la Plata and arrive in Buenos Aires itself, to enjoy a sophisticated piece, a brilliant example of contemporary tango., in the hands of an orchestra that is free from all prejudice and enjoys the combination of the traditional with the electronic intentions that are most recently present in the artistic environment. What we actually have here is a single, called Pompeya, which, in its first section, is presented in its full format, with all the instruments of its original lineup. Then, in the second section, it briefly departs from its original milonga and is remixed for enjoyment on international dance floors. And then, in the third section, we see the performance almost stripped down, remaining exclusively in its acoustic form. Each version is delicate, splendid, and compelling. Brilliant.
An Andalusian Dog – DogDog
They come from Ecatepec de Morelos, a town located in the State of Mexico, and they say they do Ecatekraut. They have surely, in a boldly determined way, decided to use that label so that His listeners see and hear his effort to achieve a distinct sound proposal, with its own identity that, seriously speaking, deserves attention, due to its experimental spirit and its immersive result. We like the result for its boldness, for its intention to break the mold from the first note, and for convincing us directly with its song. Iron Bridges, one of the best recordings we've heard this year, proving that electric guitars in the hands of new generations can still achieve the magic that new rock needs to renew itself.
