Visions of Suspiria: A sensory explosion of new Chilean pop
The album Visions of Suspiria It reminds us that pop, at its best, can be free, emotional, and profoundly unexpected. When it sheds its non-commercial layer, pop crosses new boundaries, takes risks, and shakes us with sonic surprises. Today's indie pop has the mission of opening doors and windows that force us to question our way of inhabiting the world. All that substance is what it offers. Visions, the first work of this Chilean artist.
Pop, at its best, has shed its intricate and unpleasant extra-commercial layer. Today it is freer, crosses new boundaries, and conceives of music in a more daring and less obvious way. Pop should be life, a varied light, bringing surprises from its sonic laboratories, stirring emotions because it contains a new way of portraying the everyday.
Contemporary indie pop has an obligation to constantly open new doors and windows that force us to rethink how we conceive of our survival. All this substance we've described is what we come to feel when we listen. Visions, the first album by Suspiria.
Who is Suspiria?
Suspiria is the stage name of Débora De Rivero, a multidisciplinary artist who stands out in the new Chilean pop scene. A singer-songwriter, composer, producer, performer, dancer, and audiovisual director, her creative universe intertwines multiple languages with a powerful and unique identity.
His music blends avant pop with elements of dembow, drum and bass, hyper pop and electronica, resulting in a sonic alchemy that combines the avant-garde, the sensual, and the emotional. Their aesthetic is an immersive experience: hypnotic choreography, dazzling costumes, and a velvety voice that evokes landscapes of desire, fantasy, and beauty.
A short, intense, and free album
Visions It's a nine-song album with a runtime of just over 25 minutes. It's a compilation of intense recordings, mixed in a completely disorienting way. The vocal placement—always a blend of desperation and ecstasy—returns to the concept of using the voice as another instrument: a resource that not only conveys a textual message but also emits sonic booms that transcend words.
The production is constantly evolving, skillfully adding resonant, jungle-like sounds that create their own sonic landscapes. The mixing process breaks molds, creating in each track a bud that must mysteriously unfold, intending to seduce before being understood. It's like a kaleidoscope: one observes, marvels, and perhaps, from that moment, can begin to grasp the experience.
Dance, desire and disinhibition
Visions It's a wonderful album, offering lessons in uninhibited expression and new ways of perceiving. Tracks like "Encuéntrame" (Find Me), "Ojos de luna" (Moon Eyes), and "Espejo" (Mirror) masterfully capture adventure, ecstasy, desire, dance, and reflection, without resorting to tired formulas. Its boldness breaks the mold, and the resulting expressions are captivating.
Definitely a must-have album.
