Puerto Arena – The Sinú sounds:
The truth is that very little music news (almost none) reaches us from the city of Montería. Located near the Atlantic Ocean and crossed by the Sinú River, this Colombian city is not exactly one of the Colombian populations with the most artistic activity on the map. That's why we are surprised and delighted to report the release of this album, with its profoundly hybrid sound., where we hear pleasant mixes of folk sounds from the region such as Bullerengue, Porro, Fandango, Chandé and the Cumbia blended with contemporary genres like Pop, Rock, Salsa, Jazz, Funk, Souk, Rap, and Soukous. It's a great album that deserves local and, why not say it, international attention. It's worth taking the time to get to know them.
Meelt – Past triumphs
Looking for transgressive noise, with a saturation of distorting and reverberating effects? Do you think that a bass, drums, and loud vocals are enough to stir up your head and make you feel the fresh aggression of twenty-first-century garage rock? Want to find curious movie references in song lyrics and remember that famous American actor Bruce Willis once didn't realize until the very end of the film that he'd been dead for quite some time? If so, then what you're looking for is the new album from this Mexico City duo, where you'll find blissfully torturous recordings and a fresh reminder that punk is far from dead.
The Mermaids – With the root in the head
Latin American folk music made with a feminist attitude. That's what this Costa Rican sextet offers us with their new compilation of five songs., where we can hear notes of bolero, jazz, cumbia and other sound elements, achieving a pleasant and consistent production. In her lyrics, we find a strong sense of protest against patriarchy that blends naturally with her instrumental development. In her songs, we can hear phrases like «"Because being a woman goes beyond having a vagina / my appearance, my clothing, and your gaze do not define me"» o «"I confess that I have never / never, never / wanted to be holier / what I do want / is to be more innocent / more aware"». I'm sure more than one man will be offended by what they say. .
