According to Wikipedia, many animals that appear to be depressed or grieving They begin to exhibit self-destructive behavior that sometimes ends in death. In 2009, 28 cows and bulls mysteriously threw themselves off a cliff in the span of three days. A deer jumped off a cliff, causing its death, in order to avoid being captured by hunting dogs. In 2005, in Turkey, 1,500 sheep jumped to their deaths; about 400 died. Suicidal behavior has been observed more frequently in females than in males and in vertebrates more than in invertebrates. Carpenter ants and some termite species rupture their glands in a process called autopsy. Termites use autopsy to defend their colony by rupturing a gland that produces a sticky secretion with a defensive effect. When threatened by a ladybug, the pea aphid explodes, killing the ladybug. Suicide has also been observed in whales.

In short, these are just facts, which, when it comes down to it, They are provoked by the curiosity we feel when we see that there is uA Chilean band called Los Animales also commits suicide (a name we've avoided mentioning in the title of this review, due to possible and stupid censorship on social media). And we're talking about them, not for reasons other than musical ones, because they recently released a beautiful album called Weariness.

Let's begin with a statement that other commentators would save for later, After describing the sound of the band in question, telling something about their biography or something similar, I'm going to get right into the thick of it: The third track on this album, If it's about dying, It may be one of the most satisfying songs I've heard in recent years. It's a simple tune, perhaps with an instrumental structure that might seem familiar to some. There are no hidden tricks here, nor are they reinventing rock and roll after a nuclear catastrophe., But the tune is splendid in its expression, in its sadness, in its rage of distorted guitar riffs, in the anguish of the voice. And we've heard the speech elsewhere, but to hear it in the choir saying  «"If death is to come, let it be from love; if death is to come, let it be from sorrow, but never, never from boredom.", It makes your heart sink, your stomach churn, and becomes a motto for life., So obvious yet so exciting, it's appreciated and repeated in the stereo.

Now, the rest of the album. What this band does. It's what they call in serious and pretentious magazines "indie pop" or "dream pop", "shoegaze", "indie rock", whatever. You know how I complain and beat myself up about labels, which are meant to explain, but also to confuse. Anyway: Here are ten impeccably produced recordings that don't try to break the mold of new rock and roll., and instead they focus on moving the listener, through well-rounded compositions, intelligent and catchy melodies, exquisite vocal work and guitars that build layers and layers of noisy, elegant textures, without stealing attention from the lyrics, to the predicate.

Here, everyday stories with dramatic twists are told. Sleeping on the bus, Contrary to what one might suspect from the title, andIt's a hurricane in the middle of the road. The next song, curiously titled Tinnitus (perception of a sound without an external source producing it), It makes use of the caustic strings that bounce around all the time in the recording, And yet, the voice remains calm, until, finally, it needs to shout, to bear witness to the intense moment they want to convey. There are moments reminiscent of new wave, as we can observe in Queer, where the keyboards stand out, and the bass sounds like it was played by the old Peter Hook from New Order. The most "naive" moment might be Nothing and nobody, so far the most listened to song on Spotify, perhaps the closest thing to the 80s on the whole album. Weariness It's a sound-solid album that can navigate between different decades, But it is an album made in contemporary places and times and can be understood and enjoyed by any lover of new music anywhere in the world.

Weariness It is a production that contains a healthy and necessary sadness, that heals wounds. It's a good therapy that lasts a little over half an hour and, contrary to what you might suspect, brings with it satisfaction and a well-deserved smile. It's a good album that you and, if you wish, your pets can enjoy.
