subversonicosBy Rodrigo Ricardo @hhdrums

I didn't think the editor of Zona Girante would publish this article, after so much time of being blocked, laziness, or whatever the reason for my lack of collaboration for the magazine. However, my long “reviewing” slumber was abruptly and surprisingly interrupted, with the aim of introducing the readers of this publication to a band from the Colombian city of Bucaramanga call Subversives, formed by Atu Rey, on lead vocals and guitars; Dalila Tapia on bass and Ana María Moreno on synthesizers,  who delight us with their first work, called Light & Noise.

How would you define the sound these guys make? I think they could hardly be categorized into any genre. They sound like Pop, they sound like Indie, they sound like Rock, they sound like Punk, they sound like New Wave… They sound like many things, because all the elements, although perfectly blended, They have their own contribution, their own personality, Its color (my dad would say it's absurd to say that music has color). Atu Rey's voice has playful changes with each song; the guitar becomes rock and roll in some songs, in others it plays with minimalist arpeggios. The bass accompanies the almost imperceptible rhythm of the drums with a basic (and very accurate) equalization. The keyboard, without having very high pretensions, becomes the protagonist of the songs in every arrangement, in every note, in every measure in which it participates, with a delicious psychedelic style.

It is a relatively short job (5 songs that, in total, last no more than 20 minutes), but substantial. It's clear that it wasn't a job done lightly or haphazardly. There is an evident musical richness in each of the songs; They play with effects, sounds, and harmonic lines, without ever quite reaching a progressive level. The notes simply emerge (sometimes frenetic, sometimes orderly), and the ears are gradually filled with good music.

The Subversónicos are highly recommended for this end of the year.. I'm truly glad to have discovered their songs, and I'm left with the desire to enjoy some audiovisual content and the eagerness to see their stage performance., because the music is fantastic.
