I don't know how many times this has happened in the history of music, but it's very striking: After releasing an album entirely in English last year, Between ones and zeros, the Argentinian band Les Mentettes He makes a strange effort and in 2015 translates one of his songs, I belong, and presents it to the Spanish-speaking market as Nowhere.Curious, isn't it? We've seen how some Latinas have gone out to find audiences in other regions by grabbing a dictionary and adapting their lyrics to distant languages., But this business of reprogramming everything to sing in their native language is not easy to recall another precedent for.
Perhaps the band, after presenting their art across countless borders, feels the need to communicate with the people in the neighborhood and explain what they talk about when they go out on other stages. Perhaps it's time to make its colorful pop art even more understandable to the neighbors., Armed with simple electronic programming and sensitive melodies related to dreamlike textures, they achieve compositions that are attractive to a demanding audience, wherever they come from.
Les Mentettes are worth listening to, in any language. They provide enough musical reasons to keep an eye on them, regardless of whether their business decisions confuse us or not. The important thing is that they make songs to get attention.
