This is a special session. Here we have the opportunity to see the Kaqchikel Maya artist perform live together. Sara Curruchich already the Mexican Living Quintana, supported by an all-female band, performing together their well-known tunes No More Alone y Song Without Fear, within the framework of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, held on November 25.
With the release of this musical and audiovisual production, the project comes to a close. No More Alone that these Latin American singers started in 2022, With this, they toured different venues in Guatemala and Mexico, countries where they also held meetings with women's organizations and human rights activists. The video, which lasts 8 minutes and 30 seconds, contains the two compositions, whose sound could be described as a blend of Central American indigenous folklore, pop, and rock, reaching its peak with the vocal performances of Quintana and Curruchich. Their message and intentions are clear, as Curruchich herself explains: “The violence that pervades our countries and that women experience daily is alarming. This collaboration arose from the need to find a way to raise awareness and encourage people to join the fight against violence, specifically through music created by women.”. Quintana adds that the project reflects the struggles for personal and social rights.. “We always seek the same goal: to be more fulfilled, free, and visible everywhere. It’s our way of saying: we are here and we are fighting. And we will continue to be present; without fear.”.
These are the lyrics to the two songs:
No More Alone(Sara Curruchich)
A knowing flicker of light Night and day, duality of hope She dreams, she dreams freely She sighs, laughs freely, and says
The flowers haven't dried up. They're not going to dry I spread my wings Let them flow to the Sun Let my dreams dance freely Let the color of my joy flow
Fly with me I fly with you Let us return to rebirth Like seeds at dawn Like fireflies at dusk
The heartless monster is gone now Even from my dreams I've already poured it in He is not welcome here I'm not afraid anymore! I'm throwing him into the great beyond No more being alone
Your words Sister companion The beating of your insides The feeling in your gaze Don't feel alone You will never be alone Brave warrior of light
Close your eyes, nothing more will happen The voice, the faithful companion I walk, the fearless cry For her, for the others I will never be silent again!
No more harm, no more Never again will we be silent. It was never your fault It never will be, never! Your unchanging greatness Your light never goes out No more being alone!
Song Without Fear (Vivir Quintana)
Let the State, the skies, and the streets tremble Let the judges and the courts tremble. Today, women are being robbed of their peace of mind. They sowed fear in us, and wings grew in us.
Every minute, every week They steal our friends, they kill our sisters They destroy their bodies, they make them disappear Don't forget their names, please, Mr. President
For all the comrades marching on Reforma For all the girls fighting in Sonora For the female commanders fighting for Chiapas For all the mothers searching in Tijuana
We sing without fear, we demand justice We shout for every missing woman Let it ring out loud: We want to live! May the femicide perpetrator be brought down!
I burn everything down, I break everything If one day some jerk extinguishes your vision Nothing silences me now, everything is too much for me now. If they touch one of us, we all respond.
I am Claudia, I am Esther, and I am Teresa I am Ingrid, I am Fabiola, and I am Valeria. I am the girl you forced your way up. I am the mother who now weeps for her dead And I'm the one who'll make you pay the bills.
Justice! Justice! Justice!
May the femicide perpetrator be brought down!
And let the earth tremble at its core To the sisterly roar of love And let the earth tremble at its core To the sisterly roar of love
Additional note: Sara Curruchich joins in the live session for the performance of Canción Sin Miedo with some verses in Kaqchikel.
