Alejandro and Maria LauraAlways, always

It seems the stars aligned, allowing us to present the recent releases of three beautiful moments in 2D animation within the Latin American independent music scene. The first example comes from Lima and presents the new song from this folk-pop duo who, in the midst of quarantine, have decided to recreate the creative adventures of their daughter, Where, amidst broccoli, tomatoes, and dancing potatoes, his story unfolds on lined paper and crayons, calming the fury and hunger of a dragon who, in the end, manages to sleep with a full belly, next to his whole family. A good story, suitable for all audiences, especially for those who have had to spend this entire season with their families by their side 24 hours a day.

Gregorio MerchánLupe

Here we have another artist who decided to take advantage of the pandemic to launch his solo career, and it has paid off. Merchán, from Bogotá, drummer for Morfonia and Aterciopelados, has released his EP Sin Miedo (Without Fear)., which includes this tune, featuring the voice of the young singer Lucille Dupin, which sounds like an experimental electronic jazz exercise with pop lyrics. The clip, with its clean visuals reminiscent of early 20th-century advertising catalogs, manages to draw us into the film without any jarring moments, allowing us to better understand the work's context. The understated use of color makes the four minutes and seventeen seconds of the clip fly by. The result: A solid introduction to a new chapter.

Sucre CometStorm

And the third chapter of this story originates in the Ecuadorian Pacific, more precisely in Guayaquil. From there comes this pleasant pop-rock track with a video that seems to have been made from memories of The Little Prince, but with a story somewhat similar to that narrated by David Bowie in Space Oddity. Astronauts in danger, planets being torn apart, rockets crashing, all that and more is part of the story told with vectorized colors and simple strokes., Trying to capture the nostalgic atmosphere of the sound design, it ultimately succeeds in deeply moving the viewer. It works, it definitely works.
