There are artists who carry their pain, their unease, in their voice. From the first note, you can feel that they are telling us the unvarnished truth., But, however tragic their lyrics may be, we can't stop listening to them. They bear witness to difficult times, and, moreover, they carry their own personal drama.
Loko Kuerdo, a brilliant Colombian vocalist with a dark intonation, narrates his difficult journey in a streetwise yet elegant way, as elegant as the honesty with which he delivers his message. His recordings resonate with a large fanbase within the hip-hop scene, and it's unfair that his work isn't more widely known outside of that circle. His latest productions have improved exponentially in their sonic intentions and could be appreciated in any music venue in Latin America. A perfect example of this is his latest studio album, Dark passion, produced by 27beats. This track instrumentally approaches certain textures of contemporary trip hop and It blends well with the artist's sharp and distinctive accent.
We can say that Loko Kuerdo represents a branch of Colombian hip hop that focuses on telling us about personal anxieties rather than trying to impress us with urban depravity. He's a tortured poet who wants to reach a mass audience, and, frankly, His new records perfectly justify his wishes.
