Gentlemen, wait no longer. Stop listening to the voices that try to tell us every day that rock is dead. Stop believing those who claim that this genre has become stuck in endless repetition and is sinking deeper and deeper into the style of its classics. Stop buying into this disguised avant-garde hipster trend, full of ridiculous poses that flinch at the slightest distortion. Gentlemen, I repeat, wait no longer: It's here. Following, the long-awaited album from the band from La Plata Rule, And from what we've heard, we can say that we are facing one of the best albums, not only of 2015, but perhaps of the last 5 years in Latin America.
And yes, I know Norma, I like them, whatever. But among my friends there are also musicians who don't say anything interesting. I like them, but they don't make me say the words I'm writing in this review. Norma, this damned quartet that took far too long to release new material, comes to silence our waiting, to shut us up and make us listen to their short songs, treasures of just a few minutes that know how to capture the fury of rock and at the same time laugh at the very reverence they inspire.
Following It's a stunning album that arrives quietly, without much fanfare, taking us by surprise, silently aware of the stir it might cause. Amidst its powerful melodies, bizarre lyrics, and dissonant guitars, which seem to create the soundtrack to an extraterrestrial experience by the Río de la Plata, and after listening to the album's nine tracks on repeat, we regain the confidence that there is still music that can move us, that we can still channel our anger and find the right smile to defy our daily misery.
It's possible that none of the songs from Following It doesn't get even a hundred times the airplay it deserves on your favorite station. But, luckily, we don't depend on the radio to catch our joy, nor do we have to be guided by what some experts say who try to convince us that the avant-garde doesn't exist on this side of the planet. Norma, fortunately, is on our side and resides within our musical borders.
