The vast majority of musical projects began, privately or publicly, wanting to reinterpret the music of their idols, Or perhaps as a transgressive act, musically contradicting the influences that those who wanted to teach them how to get the most out of their compositions already detested. Covers were, are, and always will be part of the practice of sound art professionals. And even the most renowned artists, not only in their early days, They have stood on the shoulders of giants, and played their tunes, adding their own personal substance.
In days when artistic news comes out little by little (January always brings its complications), We have decided not to disconnect from our audience and to continue publishing interesting content that is provided by the archives and half-finished ideas that we had in reserve. Furthermore, as most of you know, cover songs are prized gems in the development of Zonagirante.com. And on this occasion, we've turned to the catalogs of some of the most well-known names in the Latin American music scene. and selected, in each case, one of its most outstanding reinterpretations.
In our select group of chosen individuals, we have wonderful cases: We have the Mexican band Moenia reviving a Spanish classic from the eighties. Cerati, alongside Andy Summers, paying tribute (with translation included) to The Police. The Monterrey-based group El Gran Silencio, mixing cumbia, punk, and hip hop, recorded a Leo Dan classic. Los Bunkers performing their pop/rock version of one of Silvio Rodríguez's most famous songs. Anyway, In total, fifteen versions ready to continue being celebrated by the public of yesterday, today and always.
It is not without reason, then, to recall, as we conclude this note, what David Bowie said: «"A good cover not only honors the original, but also gives it a new perspective."»
