We frequently talk about the breadth and diversity of the Latin American music scene, and we reflect on the importance of referencing the countries and cities where the artistic community finds its home and generates its own movements. Our intention is to offer the audience the opportunity to recognize that throughout our continent There are spaces where diverse social, economic, emotional or simply aesthetic circumstances give rise to musical scenes that share certain common features (without implying a lack of variety or rigidity in the schemes). Following a simplistic but optimistic perspective, we believe we could use a label that encompasses what we see and hear. For this reason, we launched a collection of playlists under the name of Sound Geography. Each week, we will present a volume of songs that will offer a glimpse into what is happening in different corners of our hemisphere., further highlighting the musical richness that characterizes this part of the world.
Our project It begins with a list highlighting the most relevant Chilean female voices at this time. These are twenty-five women, Some with a strong presence in the global market and others emerging from the independent sector, who have begun to capture the attention of both fans and experts. It's curious to hear many Chileans comment that their music receives little international attention, arguing that they are in a forgotten corner of the world and therefore go unnoticed. However, one only needs to mention names like Mon Laferte, Javiera Mena, Francisca Valenzuela, Ana Tijoux, Cancamusa or Rubio, to acknowledge the considerable following they have, boasting hundreds, thousands, and even millions of followers eagerly awaiting each of their productions. These artists have transcended borders, won prestigious international awards, and left their mark on different continents. Furthermore, there are other artists who are increasingly fulfilling the expectations generated by specialized media, such as Entrópica, Yorka, Mariana Montenegro (in her solo career), Olivia García, Dulce y Agraz, among other figures included in this compilation. It is also important to highlight Nicole, a legendary figure who has reigned in pop for over thirty years and whose relevance remains undeniable.
This musical journey spans one hour and twenty-four minutes, exploring diverse styles and sounds, and clearly demonstrating that Chile boasts a solid and admirable music scene. Its present is remarkable and its future promising.
