It is undeniable the growth of the independent music scene in Chile in this century. This is evident not only in the explosion of talent circulating throughout the country and in various parts of the world, but also in the formation of diverse companies and associations that have been established over time, solidifying the market for self-management and labels independent of the multinational record companies., and that they have been able to build a scene that is more than interesting and worthy of imitation in other Latin American countries. In this series of special content exercises on Zonagirante.com, in which we discuss local phenomena on our continent, We will use a great example to describe what is happening in the Chilean music scene: Algorecords.

Algorecords is an independent label, founded by brothers Alvaro and Alejandro Gomez,  who, since 2002, have been working together with some of the best rock bands in their country, establishing a working style based on joint collaboration and negotiation schemes for all parties involved, Something quite uncommon in this business, rife with shady deals and fine print in contracts. Today, with nearly 60 titles released, Algorecords, as stated on its official website, «"It stands as one of the most established and important labels in the independent scene, positioning its work and bands at important festivals and fairs in the music business, both in Chile and abroad.". Their catalog is impressive. and contains some of the best albums that have been made in that southern country in the last twenty-two years.

In this list of 25 songs taken from many of his publications in his catalog, We honor the history of this label, with groups that passed through its home and recording studio. (where, if the client requests it, it can still be recorded in the old analog way), and where we have allowed ourselves to include 23 groupings, of which 3 are not of Chilean origin, But they have formed alliances with the Gómez brothers to showcase some of their material to the Chilean public (we are talking about They talk behind your back., from Uruguay, Sonic Angels, French residents in Spain, and Go!Zilla, (Italian band with an exquisitely caustic sound). In short, for a little less than ninety minutes, we invite you to enjoy great displays of blues, fuzz, stoner, garage, psychedelic, folk, shoegaze, punk and rock and roll of the Southern Cone.

Our interest, in creating Geografía Sonora, It is to foster knowledge among the different members of the Latin American musical community, so that we know where we stand, and so that we can create opportunities for exchange, having a clearer understanding of our realities. This isn't empty rhetoric; it reflects a reality many are unaware of, thus limiting the likelihood of reciprocity among us all. Welcome!
