Some time ago, a prominent figure in intellectual discourse asked What is the purpose of poetry?. Many who read it believed that this man was questioning the value of that expression, that he was mocking the practice of rhyming and those who tried to embellish all the facts of life, including death, with words that would give some hope to those who had already lost the illusion of doing anything more than wandering around the world obeying their bosses until the end of time. The discussion was brought up, contrary to what is suspected, for the exact opposite reason. The aim was to recover the value of the aesthetic sense of verse or prose and to get the community to return, without shame and rather with delight, to the reading of those heroes of language who could give some meaning to everything we experience.

These days the paragraph from the Sevillian comes back to our memory. Antonio Machado, who once wrote:

«"I talk to the man who is always with me."
-He who speaks alone hopes to speak to God one day-
My soliloquy is a conversation with this good friend
who taught me the secret of philanthropy.".

We're talking about poetry because today we're delighted to feature a higher-than-usual number of hip-hop artists among our new releases. They've reclaimed the power of words, despite the disdain and resistance to their lyrics, their discussions, and their demands. We're pleased to promote their excellent songs and their invaluable spirit of experimentation, which is revitalizing the sounds of our time. For the fourth time in 2020, we bring you new material from Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Chile, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Mexico, which sound like Pop, Folk, Electronic, Fusion, Rock and, as we already said, Hip hop. Among others, we've added the new single from Daniel Melero, the latest production of Alcolirycoz, the new publication of Sotomayor and the most recent recording of Nicola Cruz.

We repeat once again our favorite phrase for these kinds of occasions: Find your headphones, step away from the world and listen. This is the Zonagirante.com playlist from February 3, 2020.

If any of our followers would like to showcase their illustration work and collaborate with Zonagirante.com, please contact us and send your portfolio to zonagirante@yahoo.com. Thank you in advance.
