Let's be clear: On Zonagirante.com The vast majority of the time when we feature the music we discuss in our articles, we turn to Spotify. Only on rare occasions, if the material is available there, do we publish the material with the Bandcamp codes (our favorite platform), or if the information in video has more value, we use Youtube or Vimeo. But, we admit, almost 90% of the time Spotify is the tool of choice. Moreover, we upload our podcasts through Anchor.fm, a distributor belonging to the Swedish company, since it allows us to include the songs we talk about in our comments without having copyright problems and, rather, ensuring that every time they are played, the artists who composed and recorded them are paid. That doesn't mean we like what Spotify does or how it does it.

We are quite displeased with this company's payment policy, as it is one of the platforms that pays artists the worst per stream. In that item, it is far surpassed by Napster, Tidal, Apple and Google, in some cases by almost double. We also know that their guidelines don't exactly include a clear policy of supporting emerging artists or independent labels. Aesthetically, what they offer on screen is ultimately unsatisfying, and their interface diminishes the value of the album covers displayed. The sound quality of Tidal and Apple is superior. And, of course, we're quite upset that they host podcasts on their servers that spread misinformation about health, specifically regarding the Covid-19 vaccine. But, still, no one here is threatening to leave this company. The majority of our visitors, and, in general, a large portion of digital music consumers in Latin America, are Spotify subscribers. We can't deny that reality. It must be admitted that, for the moment, all of this is unfortunately unavoidable.

For the fifth time in 2022, we're releasing a new weekly chart of new songs made in Colombia, Peru, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Mexico, labeled as Pop, Fusion, Folk, Hip Hop, Folklore, Electronic, Reggae and Rock. Among others, we added the new single from Bomba Estéreo,  the latest production of Alex Ferreira, the new publication of Lupita and the most recent recording of Prime numbers.

We repeat once again our favorite phrase for these kinds of occasions: Find your headphones, step away from the world and listen. This is the Zonagirante.com playlist for February 4, 2021.

If any of our followers would like to showcase their illustration work and collaborate with Zonagirante.com, please contact us and send your portfolio to zonagirante@yahoo.com. Thank you in advance.
