This month carries too much nostalgia. October heralds either blossoming or decline, depending on where we are on the globe. In the south it is the time of desperate spring, moments of amorous rashes, pollen floating in the air, the first skirts that rise in the wind to disturb the innocence of the unsuspecting and perhaps, just perhaps, the long-awaited kisses. In the north it is the red of the trees in the parks, the paths of fallen leaves trailing with the path of passersby, The first coats that conceal the size of our bodies, and the first disappointments that follow summer. On the office door, to honor this month, and in case someone comes in a particularly good mood, we hung, at the suggestion of the company's poetry secretary, this text by Alfonsina Storni, To discourage inappropriate smiles, bombastic exclamations, and annoying encouraging comments:
I would like this divine October afternoon
stroll along the distant shore of the sea;
than the golden sand, and the green waters,
and the pure skies would see me pass by.
I wish I could be tall, proud, perfect.,
like a Roman, to agree
with the big waves, and the dead rocks
and the wide beaches that border the sea.
With slow steps and cold eyes
and my mouth silent, let myself go;
watch the blue waves break
against pimples and not blinking;
watch how birds of prey eat
the small fish and not wake up;
to think that the fragile boats could
to sink into the waters and not sigh;
to see him move forward, his throat exposed,
The most beautiful man, not wanting to love…
To lose one's gaze, distractedly,
to lose her and never find her again:
and, an upright figure, between sky and beach,
to feel the perpetual oblivion of the sea.
