Unexpected questions always arise, and this time the question was posed by a friend of the house. He, who was visiting our office, asked, as if it were nothing, how we put together the weekly lists. The director, ultimately responsible for the final compilation, its composition and order, laughed for a while, because, as he immediately told us, Another friend, this time in a private chat, jokingly accused the boss of being a Spartan when it came to performing those tasks. «"The songs on playlists," he began, "should have the aroma of bread fresh from the oven."». He continued, «"These recordings have only been on the air and online for a few hours, so they're a surprise to most of the audience. They're not yet part of anyone's memories; the idea is to give the ears of those who listen a breath of fresh air.". Therefore, and this may be considered radical, these lists do not contain sound moments that were provided to us late, since, being exaggerated, a relaxation of the rules could begin that would lead us to fall into an unjustifiable chaos. «"Anyone can be right to call us extremists, obsessive, or downright unbearable, but it's part of our game, a form of entertainment that few would take for granted and that, therefore, makes us unique.". Another detail from our playlists, he noted, is to encompass, without falling into the silly guidelines of the top commercials, genres that demonstrate the vitality of the Latin American music scene. «"Zonagirante.com is not rock, it's not hip hopper, it doesn't just label itself as electronic music or fusion or folk. Zonagirante.com is all of that, and more if that sound comes from the independent side of the industry.". At this point in the discussion, one of the journalists approached and completed the explanation: «"What we're doing isn't demagoguery. It would be very easy for us to pay attention and jump on the bandwagon of the latest hit by Bad Bunny, Shakira, Juanes, or other tremendously popular artists, who would never know that they were part of our editorial effort, and would never value our support like so many others whom we love, admire, and listen to with the pleasure they deserve.".
Each week has its own rhythm, and we know that every Friday we showcase 20 new productions that, perhaps, as a whole, will have better luck in a given week. But in the long run, adding up the whole year, We have 1000 songs released during this entire period and we know that behind each one of them there is an invaluable effort that deserves to be appreciated. Fortunately, Latin America, with all its dramas, injustices, and suffering, continues to be a breeding ground for talent that captivates the entire world (without the need for cheap and prefabricated clichés) in an honorable and precious celebration.
