2019 not only gave us the opportunity to listen to great original music on this side of the planet. Also released were covers that memorably reinterpret classics from yesterday, today and forever.

Doing a cover song has its interesting risks. The least brave (and that's what the vast majority of tribute projects that fill nightclubs today do) It's about making an almost exact copy of the original theme. The supposed effort of these groups lies in flawlessly performing their original material and making the audience believe that the initial essence isn't lost in the execution. In most cases, it's a scam for drunks, a kind of pathetic live karaoke where the revelers belt out the tunes they were already butchering on their phones on the way to the club.. The real courage lies in rebuilding everything and giving it its own personality., Listen to the translation and recognize it by details, but feel that we are hearing something new, an appropriation that we will later see if we qualify as appropriate or offensive.

This time we bring you a playlist that's almost an hour long, with 17 covers made throughout the year that are worth highlighting, for their content, their boldness and their result, which we, boldly, have celebrated and made accomplices in their adventure from the very first note of their recordings. It's no small feat to take a risk with songs from Nirvana, David Bowie o Robi Draco, And even less so when they are pieces that are part of the collective memory of millions. This year, strikingly, the most cited artists in this catalog of renowned selections include... Charly García (three of the initial tracks were made by the guy with the two-toned mustache at different stages of his life) and The Clash (Two of his best-known songs were performed with a rebellious spirit, perhaps to ignite new fires of protest in the streets.) The list of honorees is completed with names such as He killed a motorcycle police officer (the acoustic recording of the Negra Chavez (It's one of our favorites), Mecano, Eros Ramazzotti, Serrat, Alaska and Dinarama, Buzzcocks, Fobia, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs And, happily, Luis Alberto Spinetta.

With contributions from Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, the United States, and Uruguay, And in the style of rockabilly, pop, electronic, folk, and rock, we present the best Latin covers of the year. We hope you enjoy them.
