arawato

Venezuelan rock has hidden gems, Hidden gems amidst the sonic maelstrom that surrounds us. This may be due to a lack of awareness, prejudice, or simply the absence of Caracas and its surrounding areas at the heart of Latin American musical interests. Regardless of whether we are affected by or influenced by the country's political circumstances, there is much to explore and listen to in contemporary Venezuelan music. And, despite our suspicions and the daily grind, Good projects continue to emerge that deserve our attention.

The latest example of this is Arawato, the side project of members of prominent groups, a trio made up of Rodrigo Solo (ViniloVersus), Luis Jiménez (Los Mesoneros) and Carlos Imperatori (Dioslepague, Tumbador). Their first single, The opening, warns us of its rock and roll vibe, with sounds similar to White Stripes, The Strokes, Queens of the Stone Age, and other references that might take us back to earlier times, like The Who or The Beatles themselves. Impeccable melody and seductive guitar distortion. A good start. We'll be keeping an eye on what's next.
