To begin, let's start with a trick question that may offend some people: How many times have you laughed, making light of the chances of seeing good pop rock in Bolivia? Setting aside the sarcastic tone of the initial question, the truth is that not much news about contemporary music from La Paz and its surrounding areas reaches the rest of Latin America. Well, folks, it's time to shut our mouths and listen. Avionics.
This project, Made by a character who goes by the name of Joti, presents as a preview of his album Electricity, a promotional video for their first single, Distant, a work created with the always beautiful Chilean Francisca Valenzuela. Let's take it one step at a time:
The song? A tremendously catchy song, marked in the power pop style, with a selection of eighties-sounding keyboards and a subtle handling of the guitar, which intervenes at the moments when the recording should explode. Joti's voice is particularly nasal, but the music is designed to take advantage of that characteristic. Valenzuela's vocal contribution adds a healthy sensuality, a spark that completes the package, for to be able to proclaim that we are facing a hit, in any way possible.
The clip? It's impressive from beginning to end. From a photographic design that misses no detail, to a handling of speeds in editing that surprises and captivates. The art direction is impeccable, with a successful approach to the color palette. In other words, Aviónica, with this video, has kicked off the presentation of its new album on the best possible foot.
There's no room for sarcasm anymore. Bolivia begins, with Aviónica, to be on the map of pop icons of the era.
