Luni & The Lovers – I'm so cute
Everything is set up to make us think we're watching a cheesy, saccharine video. We have a rubber flamingo, a picnic basket, a deserted beach, and the perfect male companion: a Boy Scout, ready to serve and defend morality and good manners. She, dressed in pink, in the least provocative cut possible, puts on the music, and then, little by little, the hurricane arrives. The innocence in every word of the tune crumbles, and the myth of the virginal girl («"I am what they say in love songs"») breaks down with every passing moment. Social conventions and proper etiquette go out the window, no matter how clumsily the naive uniformed officer tries to stop the horror. Anyway, this is a funny clip, perfect for accompanying a song of perfect irony. A word of advice: Show it to the most conservative aunt in the family and laugh with her at everything that happens on screen.
Nuria Saba ft. Achkirik – I dream at height
From Peru comes a great pop song, with additional elements of hip hop and soul. The performer, Nuria Saba, shows unmistakable signs of growth in her artistic intentions, with a tune of precise construction and attractive enough to catch the attention of the continent's commercial circuits. The video, although it uses elements seen many times in other clips, is well-executed in its production, its excellent cinematography, and its editing. The result is striking.
Gabylonia – Boombap
When experts say "less is more," don't take it literally. The principle isn't about saving a few bucks and playing at minimalism for the sake of it. This Venezuelan rapper's video is great because it has enough elements to make her the sole protagonist, knowing from the beginning that her presence and vocal power are enough. Of course, the elegance of the product lies in arranging what little there is in order: a space painted a striking yellow, a single microphone, no superfluous objects to distract the viewer's gaze, and, occasionally, as a striking added element in the editing, the written text of some of her verses. Gabylonia knows what she's doing: she has everything in her favor to present herself like this, without embellishment, and be a sensation.
