Colombian indie pop is taking on new forms with the latest generations of artists, and this renewal includes not only updated sonic textures in their songs but also graphic experimentation in their promotional videos. This time, the musical project Surcos employs a striking technique of moving collage, with playful cutouts that seem to have been taken from vintage magazines, which together accompany a soft, pleasant melody. For older nostalgics, the images may remind them (albeit with much less humor) of Terry Gilliam's work. and his animation techniques for the presentations of the British comedy troupe Monty Python. Amidst the obviousness found in similar projects, in this South American country we find an exploration that attempts to highlight its differences and, in successful cases, manages to leave its mark. What is presented on this occasion has a different sensibility, perhaps because of the way it draws from jazz and soul, And how hip hop contributes, proposing more nuanced paths to integration. A well-produced piece that also features a clever, budget-conscious video, shot in a single take and executed with the precise finesse needed to achieve its purpose.
