We rarely do this, but as we've said, February is a slow month, Anything goes to lift your spirits and speed up your life. We have received a letter from a fan that tells us the following: «"I confess that until recently, I only went to very popular concerts whose promotion was played on the radio thousands of times a day. That way I knew exactly what I was going to see.", And, incidentally, it confirmed that the venue where the event was to take place would be packed. I wanted to be one among thousands, not a solitary spectator who risked being spotted by the musicians on stage and then thanked, in a pathetic gesture, for attending the concert. I only wanted to hear music I knew from beginning to end and didn't want any surprises. I always arrived at festivals just as the main bands on the bill started playing, and not before. I wasn't interested in finding out if this or that artist had any future, only to later confirm that I was completely wrong and that what I'd heard without warning was a fiasco that wasn't going to work. That's how my life worked with regard to music, and I was happy. Everything was calm., Until one day, by mistake, I entered a bar where I intended to have a beer and listen to familiar music in the background, and it turned out to be the complete opposite. Once my pint was served, and with the first sip in my mouth, some curtains opened and a band, seemingly nameless, began to play. People started gathering around me, celebrating this sudden live performance. I couldn't escape now. Still, I felt tied to my seat and didn't have enough strength in my legs to get away. By the second song, resigned to my position, I began to observe the audience closely. You know, when I go to big events, I rarely look at the people, or rather, I see them as a uniform mass repeating the tunes coming from the stage. In such circumstances the script doesn't vary much, and you're guaranteed the pleasure you paid for. In contrast, in these kinds of places, with music you're hearing for the first time, everything you see becomes unique. You realize it's no longer like going to church and happily repeating the same sermon. Here, they're challenging you to question everything you believe in. People dance differently, cry and laugh in their own way, they feel freer. Women feel more warmth in their skin, men babble their desires with more grace, and, it must be said, the music sounds better because it reaches your chest faster, it moves you more easily. I confess, I attend fewer festivals, fewer massive concerts, less international fanfare. I spend my time in small auditoriums, warehouses, pubs, dives. Sure, sometimes I stumble upon lamentable performances by musicians whose careers you can understand, but in many cases, there's pleasure. The essence of the music is there. Besides, the beer is always colder.»
