He would have been only 62 years old. In 83 months of absence, he surely would have continued to surprise us, day after day, with every recording or live performance he gave. Anyone could speculate, as an unverifiable game, What would Gustavo Cerati be up to in these modern times?. He, like few others, was accepted (and allowed to do so without any inhibitions) for musical steps that he performed with striking curiosity, moving from electronic experimentation to classic acoustic seduction, without ever losing that indelible rock stamp. Cerati was already beyond good and evil, and could, if he so desired, combine any genre he wanted in his compositions, according to his creative needs at the moment. In his later years, Cerati, He was a free man who didn't have to feel tied to a musical formula. And we'd wager (though we have absolutely no way of confirming it) that, from 2014 until now, he's dedicated himself to shattering every absurd paradigm he's come across, to the delight of many and, possibly, the displeasure of the more radical elements. Of course, everything we say is speculation, but we must say that We miss Cerati not only for his published work but for the explosion of future that accompanied him.

We have reached this day, the anniversary of Gustavo Cerati's birth, and once again we wanted to pay tribute to him., conducting a quick survey among artists from the continent, asking each and every one of them what their favorite song is within the complex catalog of compositions of their authorship. We are pleased that the responses have been so varied, giving us the opportunity to listen again, together with you, to a part of the great work of this much-missed figure:

Favorite song: A trip around the universe

«"I choose A Trip Around the Universe Because it transports me, it makes me fly. I feel like I'm in a spaceship, the music, higher and higher! "Vuelta por el universo" is pure Cerati, liberated. The song has an exquisite melody, sublime production, and a beautiful, gritty guitar that keeps penetrating. It makes me want to get together with a friend and write a song. Mariano Villasante

.

 Favorite song: You arrived

«"I really like an instrumental track called «"You arrived» from his album + good, It's a soundtrack. It became much more important to me with the arrival of my first child.". Molo Diaz (Earthquake).

Favorite song: Bridge

«"For its magical, essential, and powerful poetry. Because it has a beautiful message of unity and resilience."«Use love as a bridge»"What more do we need? Thank you, Gustavo, for your art.". Negra Chávez

«"I liked the new sound he gave to his music after having associated him for so long with Soda Stereo and personally finding him overexposed in the media.". Alberto Zegarra (Astronaut Project)

Favorite song: Zone of promise

«"I like it a lot "«Zone of promise«"And especially that he performed it with Mercedes Sosa for one of his albums. There's a video on YouTube where you can see Mercedes Sosa advising Gustavo on how to take care of his voice; it's a very tender image and at the same time very Latin American. I think that's the song that reminds me of the beautiful musical legacy that Argentina has left.". Dafne Castañeda.

Favorite song : Root

«"The loop has been a resource that for quite some time now has ceased to be exclusive to hip hop, and Cerati was a great user of this resource. He elevated it to a high level in many songs."«Root»"It's one of my favorites because it also has wonderful lyrics.". Gregorio Merchán.

«"It has everything I love about that album and about Cerati as a composer: incredible atmospheres, a deep and beautiful level of sampling, the use of all kinds of rhythmic keys and sounds in an ultra creative way and, as if that weren't enough, it also has a connection with Chile because it contains a fragment of 'Del aire al aire' (Eduardo Ledo) performed by Los Jaivas (Alturas del Machu Picchu). Victor Borgert (Infinite Ice Cream)

Favorite song: Lake in the Sky

«"It has a beautiful vocal melody. The song's production is excellent, with a lot of different guitars, subtle yet prominent, and, obviously, the lyrics are perfect. That said, it's very difficult to choose just one song. The 70% of Natural force, (where there is no «Lake in the sky«"I think it's the best thing Cerati ever did.". Federico Kempff.

Favorite song: Deja Vu

While "Bocanada" was always my favorite Cerati album, in recent years I've come to appreciate much more Natural force. On this album, the beats, guitars, and lyrics flow and intertwine with a kind of creative energy that generates even more creative energy. The lyrics are direct and explore the present moment. Of all the tracks on this album, the highlight is... «"Deja Vu"«. Jose Gallo (Theremyn_4)

Favorite song: Tell-Tale Heart

«"Taking Edgar Allan Poe's story and replacing the revelation of a murder with a revelation of love is simply brilliant. Not to mention that the music and lyrics are glorious and the ending is absolutely fantastic, with a sublime mysticism.". Alfonso Pinzón (Agony/Day of the Dead)

«"I like it because it's dark, has interesting lyrics, and has a touch of new wave that gives it a unique sound. What a beautiful song!". Adriana Martínez (Deer MX)

Favorite song : The City of Fury

«"Mine is 'La Ciudad de la Furia,' the MTV Unplugged version. The whole song is one continuous journey, starting with those incredibly delicious keyboards played (I think) by Twitty González. The groove is amazing, and the guitar work he does is light years ahead. The delay technique is impressive!!! There's an extra detail that blows my mind: Andrea Echeverry's participation, both for everything she represents and for the amusing anecdote of Cerati momentarily forgetting the lyrics, which resulted in Cerati and Andrea singing different lyrics in one track. They're so great that even a mistake sounds incredible. Amazing!". Carlos Rosales (Surfer Gorilla).

Finally, as a surprise for the date, as will surely happen on future anniversaries, an unreleased video of No creas has been released, a fun piece of footage made in Cerati's rehearsal room., under the direction of Diego Panich, done with high-speed lipsync and then playing with the bizarre slow motion of the final edit. In short, yet another excuse to continue missing this master.
