This time I decided to arrive late. For no particular reason, really, butBut it feels strange not to see those big hairs in broad daylight, Those black jackets, the t-shirts with letters that are just as, or even less, understandable than hip-hop lettering. Metal Day is special because understanding it and enjoying it (even if you don't like the music. Believe me, it's possible), It's about understanding the heart of Bogotá, a metalhead city if ever there was one.
The first group I saw was Morbid Macabre. More of the same. Its sound didn't excite me in the slightest., And I think it's about the way our metal bands compose, focused on virtuosity and aggression, rather than character and contrast. Then we'll chat with anyone who wants to in the food area. I liked seeing her excitement about being on stage., genuinely moved, as the guys from Perpetual Warfare would later be.
Then I went to see Aborted. Great band. At first, I didn't feel anything special about their music, and I was more focused on the problems their talented bassist has acknowledging his increasingly noticeable alopecia. After two songs, It started to become clear to me: they're a super band. Their songs are powerful, as is expected of a metalhead, but they're also interesting. Moreover, they're powerful precisely because they're rich to listen to, with distinct moments and phases, shifts between riffs, guitar solos, a great vocalist—in short, highly recommended for those who haven't had the chance to see them live. So far, my biggest discovery of the festival.
The Black Dahlia Murder He gave an excellent concert. The singer, so similar to Santiago Segura in “The Day of the Beast”, He knew how to command the stage, dressed as he was, in swim trunks. I get the impression they're a very intelligent band. They crafted a powerful and very fun sound, without sacrificing any of its strength. It's great to find people on stage Saturday who know how to smile and laugh at themselves. And well, TBDM It's a great band, I had no doubt about that.
When I saw the boys' parents Perpetual Warfare Clapping and throwing up the horns towards the stage, I finally understood what I felt after seeing this local band opening for Sepultura: pride. They sound good, really good. They are a full-fledged thrash metal band, and they play divinely. I think they still need to define a sonic identity that doesn't make them sound like Metallica or Megadeth sycophants, but actually They put on a very good show, and that's why my overall feeling is one of pride., Because it is possible to make good metal in Bogotá, metal that doesn't sound overheated. One thing, though: that evil ninja turtle is really ugly, very poorly made, and out of place. Either they do it right, or they don't do it at all.
Grave That's a different story altogether: You don't become a rock legend for free.. I don't think there's anything I can say about them that hasn't already been written by true metal connoisseurs. It will be a long time before another South American band as powerful emerges., so precise in her compositions, that combines and takes advantage so well of its origins and the sound they bring. Furthermore, I think it will be a long time before a Latin American band appears that can sing in English and sound like an Anglophone band. Unfortunately, if Sepultura had composed most of their repertoire in Portuguese, we wouldn't have known about them, So it's not always a bad thing when they decide to sing in English. If you're going to do it, make sure it's the Sepultura one.
Rock al Parque Sunday is about to start, and it's time to head out. Tomorrow, on this same channel, I'll have more unsolicited opinions. Hugs and enjoy the second day.
