What the Lima artist does Clara Yolks, It's Pop. Yes, POP (I'm writing it in capital letters, perhaps intending to horrify those who are offended by the old content of that genre so vilified during the last few decades). This is good 21st-century Latin pop, the kind that avoids cheap, corny clichés and instead manages to sing about what we experience every day in more everyday terms, closer to anyone's perspective., embracing moments of risk and experimentation and losing the fear of what others will say, especially avoiding succumbing to the antiquated premises of corrupt radio like Top 40. It's music that reaches many people through word of mouth, sharing on social media, and without the burden of large investments. Good pop music today, the independent kind, is a beautiful catalog of tunes that people like because they are catchy, rebellious, and have a good sense of humor. And yes, that's where Yolks' new recordings are located, included on their album. Deep Sea.

Let's begin to detail what you can hear on this album: Clara Yolks has a unique, instantly recognizable voice, and her everyday language is believable, carefree, and fresh in its expression.. Added to this is a production, by Edwin Black, which, without taking off its clothes, He knows how to take advantage of certain moments to add differentiating sounds, that make us raise an eyebrow in curiosity and pleasantly compel us to pay attention. Here you'll find passages of reggae, indie folk, small electronic experiments, rock in precise doses, and, Finally, when the blender is activated, the entire package, assembled and blended, is consistent. And if they want me to put it in «"capitalist and commercial terms«"It contains potential future successes.".  The best cuts, in my opinion, are Tenant (a composition full of pleasant onomatopoeia, pleasantly sticky), , Amancay Flower (perhaps the most rock-oriented song on the album, where vocal variations are more prominent) and Everything goes well for me. (the most playful moments of the production, a theme that seems made for a beach sunset).

Do you remember when, for quite some time now, I've been warning about that hidden treasure that is Peruvian indie pop, and even more so, that made by its women? Here's another example, one that allows us to insist that we focus on this talent, Before, as in previous cases, he chooses exile and seeks his future beyond his borders. My friends in the music scene of that country give me vain explanations about it, and meanwhile, that potential is lost. Clara Yolks, like so many other new singers, should be at the forefront of a renewed Peruvian vanguard in the international music industry., as other Latin American countries have done previously. They still have time if they truly want to activate a remarkable contemporary art scene among their own people and those who can observe them across the globe.
